In May 2005 Travelox decided to outsource their IT support requirements to Giotech. Previously they had a full time IT admin person on site supporting the 60 users and 1 windows 2000 server.

Before taking on Travelox an initial assessment of their infrastructure was completed which sited a number of quite dramatic improvements.

One key element that Director Daniel Ox wished to address was controlling the use of internet access. They also had a particular issue (due to their industry and volume of mail) with email born virus attacks and SPAM.

Giotech went forward and deployed a Watchguard X500 Managed firewall system at the cost of £1550.00 ex VAT (not including an annual subscription fee).

The X500 unit provides the following: Full managed SPI Firewall, Weblocker Internet content filter, Antivirus/SPAM protection for all incoming/outgoing mail.

A complete sweep of the network was completed and then the new system installed. Daniel Ox noted considerable increase in productivity for his sales floor after these changes. Staff were limited to work related websites only this included the use of 3rd party mail systems such as hotmail and MSN Messenger.

The Antivirus/SPAM Protection for their email system protects them from approximately 7 separate virus attacks a day.

The watchguard system is out of reach 'cost wise' for most small firms of 5 - 25 users but we have alternative solutions for the SME market which have equally effective results.
