In February 2006 Travelox proposed to move their HQ to a larger premises in Romford. They needed a complete solution to ensure all their IT and Telecoms equipment/services were moved swiftly, securely and without any downtime. Giotech put together a highly detailed strategic plan for the office move, which involved 4 engineers working through the night to ensure the business was up and running for monday morning. Work started at 4pm on Sunday May 7th, this was the only feasible time that we could begin the move as Travelox are open 7 days a week. During the previous week Giotech telecom engineers had put in provision for 80 CAT6 points and 80 voice points. The first thing to be installed on the 7th was the Panasonic Telephone switching system. As of May 7th all incoming phone lines and Broadband lines had been provisioned, waiting to be activated the next morning. The Second most important thing to the Travelox business model was Internet Access and their Email system. Travelox host their email locally on a dedicated server running a business class mail management software. Email is delivered via SMTP so it was important that the correct DNS changes were made for their domain to be able to send and receive email monday morning. With a DNS change their is a down time of approximately 12hrs though we can often reduce that to approximately 4-6.
